    February 29

    Dreadful Morning

    Hi,

It is February 29th today. Isn't that special?

I had a dreadful morning. I set my alarm at five 20 to take Carol to the airport but my alarm clock broke down. I did not wake up until five 50 when Phil and Carol were both ready to leave. So I rushed to get dressed and ran to the Honda. It started snowing and we have to slow down while driving or we would sled. We safely got to DTW in 45 minutes and the storm came and it took me 50 minutes to get back. I still have to get my backpack and change to my uniform, so we stopped at the house. I took the key while Phil was waiting in the car. That was about 7:45, only a quarter from school. Phil was upset and playing the horn. I rushed out without taking wallet, lunch or even the keys. Moreover I locked the door behind me. Phil was so mad that he had to walk to school in the horrible snow. Actually, we should have had a delay today. Our school again is the only school to not have a delay today. Almost everyone was late since the traffic under this weather is impossible. It cleared a lot now.

We had a morning assembly with a speaker, a black lady who gave us the speech on black history. She was interesting and she was actually a really good speaker. The theme was about black history. Then at the end of the period we had a pep rally for chess team, science olympiad but mostly for girls basketball and boys basketball. We made it to city final in varsity boys basketball, and our ladies even get farther. they are in region final, one step away from state final. We are proud of the ladies. My friends Bri and Lauren are both the starter and captain of the team. Especially Briana, she is so talented at basketball.Irish is playing tonight at Nowak,oh. I want to go to their games but i cannot.

I have to get up tomorrow at 5 again for my bus to Lima for tomorrow's competition is leaving at 6 in the morning. Good luck to our team! I am ready to win medals.

My schedule is basically settled today. I met with counselor today and we had a long talk. I also decided to take the OGT(Ohio Graduation Test) which is the week after next week. My religious class becomes so hard since this semester. It is all about the church history. I am so pissed off. Next week would be the end of this quarter. This quarter has been so busy and so short.

    Snow day!

    Hi,

Today is another snow day. The storm alarm was set from yesterday to tonight. We r expecting  12 inches. Today is off and hopefully, tomorrow will be another. I never have had a consecutive  day off before but it would be cool. Still, I need to finish my homework. I took really nice pictures of the beautiful view of the wonderland this morning. The record of day offs was 30 years ago when accumulated 6 feet of snow attacked the US and the school was closed 4 a whole winter.

    Struggle with my computer

    Hi,

I have been struggling with my computer for a couple of days. Our chess team won the last game of the season over St Johns finished with a perfect season. Our playoff record is 6-0-0. I was not there today, and Tom Dysard took my place while I went to TECHS( Toledo Elementary for College High School) whatever it is called with Chris and Eric to compete in Quiz Bowl. Chris and I beat St Ursula(All Girls Private HS) and TECHS. Eric is a UT student who was subbing coach for Mr Kelley since Mr Kelley had to be at St Johns 4 chess. We almost got a record high 1000 points in the victory over TECHS. We scored 980, only one question away. We won both game to finish the last match in QB. Chess team beat St Johns at 2.5-1.5 again. Ryan drew to another top player in the city, A.Zirbel. Dan lost his game on 2nd board, and Greg finished his last HS chess game on 3rd board. My sub Tom also did a great job and won his game. We got the shining gigantic trophies the other day.

Last Saturday Ryan ,Greg and I went to Start HS for a Junior hs chess Tournament to be referees. I had fun and those kids were so funny. Carol is leaving this Friday for Europe for 2 weeks. This is the most busy week for my paper and I have to keep up my hard work. By the way I have been doing really good on tests recently. This weekend I will be going to Lima,OH for Science Olympiad Competition and I still don't know what to prepare 4. I will be doing Chem Lab and Phyx lab and Circuit Lab. Petro is helping me with phyx these days.

We r expecting 6 inches snow 2morrow. Hopefully we can take another day off.  We had an assembly in the morning 2day with a live play by Shakespeare called Twelve Night. It was so boring.

    Tickets

    Hi,

All the other exchange kids nomatter from Russia or Germany do have their home tickets. Not 4 me. I got to start looking this week and the prices r going crazy. I would be able to get a Korean Airline round trip 4 a good 1458.  But I would have to stay in Seoul SK 4 half a day. I dont think so. I mean I would get it only when I have to. I found northwest nice fare for 1382 the other day and now they are up to 1800. Whatever!

I jamed my thumb yesterday when i was having my B-ball practice. It hurt. I did my math lab today after school gaining 2 more CIA hrs. Tolkien paper is driving me nuts. It will be due next week. Science Olympiad is coming on March 1st and I still have no clue what to do. Hopefully, the science Olympiad wont be too hard 4 me.

    Ski Trip

    Hi,

I just came back from a ski trip with AYA kids. We didn't have school today because it was the President's day. Jeanne took Nicole, Irina, Maike, Lina, Harry, May and me to a ski place up in Michigan. It was about a hour north of the town of Detroit. This would be the first time I really go through the entire city. Jeanne took the Interstate 75 and oh she is an awful driver. Skiing was really very enjoyable. I learned how to slow down, hoow to stopand how to make turns today. I am getting much better although I am still really bad at it. I can ski all the way from the medium level slope without a fall. Nicole and Maike were both so good, Lina and Harry were doing skateboard and they were incredible. May was a beginner and she was frightened so she gave up early. Irina skiied most the way with me since we were both "good" beginners. I had fun. It was just a rest from the tiring school for all of us.

The weather in Michigan was horrible. It snowed like hell and was impossible to see things only 3 feet away. We had to stay inside for a whole hour to wait untill it cleared up. By the way Jeanne had a GPS which was really interesting. It tells you where to go when you are driving.

    Hi,

We almost touch the championship of the city league chess playoff. Today we beat Perrysburg 2.5-1.5. Ryan Clayton lost to Ding in playoff game second year in a row. Ryan has only lost 2 games in his high school career and both are to Andrew Ding. Greg drew David Hirt while Dan Bush and I defeated Jaime Lauback and Springer. Springer is absolutely an asshole. He was dirty and talked all the time during the game. He cheated on the clock when I was killing him in the game. I never want to play him again. We finished 5 of our 6 playoff games with 5 wins. We would only need to defeat sucking St Johns to finish with an undefeated season with our first city championship. Good Luck! Our last game won't take place untill Feb 27.

    Beating St Francis

    Hi,

After the tiring last week, A couple of things happened during the weekend. I went to the UT Toledo Febuary Swiss on Saturday. I had 2.5 record out of 4 while losing to Albert Maginley and drew to Greg Marzark and won the other 2. Ryan got 4-0 again winning $60. Greg had 2.5. Jaime Lauback, Andrew Ding, David Hirt were also there. Surprisingly, in the >1600 division, there was a blonde high school or college kid who was killing everyone. She even beat master in a game where she had 6 seconds left on the clock while the master had only 4. Her first name was Ashley and Phil as the high school coach has never heard of her. She must be from other cities.

On Sunday I went to St Catharine for a basketball game. I made one of my best hooks ever and we won the game. This was supposed to be my last basketball game for the season. Since we made the tournament, I am not sure if I can still play. There was an episode for the game that I dropped my wallet during my cloth change. I was so worried so did Carol and Phil. In the morning today I got it back from some unknown people when I arrived school. Ms Lagger gave it back while I was in her class. After school we had the St Francis chess match and we kicked their ass 2 years in a row. Ryan and I took down Rafftery and Knaggs easily while Greg lost to mighty Albert Maginley. Dan Bush surprisingly beat Richard Metzger who beat me once in the Beach Tournament, All of us were really happy. We are looking forward to Central Catholic's first chess championship in history. Perrysburg beat St John 4-0 making us the only undefeated team in the league.

    Science Fair Completed

    Hi,

Yeah, eventually, I got my science fair completed. Really boring day in Sullivan Center showing my display board and chatting. Except for science fair, the only thing I did today was taking an integration quiz at Grieger. I chatted with Shawn and Jenny like almost the whole afternoon. Meg, Tom, John, Rachel, Carey, Molly, Andi, Alisha, Hailey, Andi, Lucas, Beth, Adam along with other Seniors were there. Abbey was ill but her camera thing was cool. The camera could take a picture with only a box with a hole and a paper. Ryan, Dan, Tom Dysard (Chess guys) were also there showing their board. I found Josh, Steve, Tom and Paul  (Basketball Guys) there as well. The most intriguing one of them all should be the polar power veicle. I liked it. I might go to UT Chess Tournament tomorrow as a practice of the St.Francis game on Monday. That will be a big one because that game would probably determine who is the champion. Whatever,  I finally can take a break during the weekend, as Petro said, Weekends were designed to sleep through.

    Happy Year of the RAT!!!

    Hi,

It is still the year of the pig here but it has been the year of the rat in China as far as I know. I want to say to everybody "Happy New Year". I really miss getting lots of short messages from friends on an eve like today, but it doesn't really matter. My Exposition is coming on Friday which means that I will be in Sullivan Center doing my display all day. We had a mass to start the Lent of this year today. Everything is so tight this days. I got to have more free time after this month. Actually Carol will leave for Europe on Feb 29th and stay for 3 weeks. We won the 3rd playoff match today over Sylvania Northview with another 4 and 0 record. Phil is really happy.

    Wii for Yi

    One thing to mention,

The kid that was shown on TV in Rockets and Bucks game was the neighbor of Mr Shi. The kid got a great seat and was holding a sign read " I TRADED MY Wii GAME FOR A YI GAME." I would think that was really neat. I liked it.

    Trip to Milwaukee

    Hi,

I was so lucky to go to Milwaukee, Wisconsin to watch the Bucks Vs Rockets game. I had a lot of fun. I had a great seat that cost 86 bucks in the lower level center. The Bradley center was not as full as I was thinking. A lot of Chinese were there, aand more were watching the game on TV although the higher level was almost empty. Bradley center locates in downtown Milwaukee. Milwaukee is really a nice town with cheese as its most famous production.

I drove all the way to Libertyville on Friday last week since I was having a day off from school due to snow. The weather was not pleasant when I started driving. The first half of the distance in Indiana was the worst. It was all wet and icy on the express way. Later when I drove through downtown Chicago it was rush hour which blocked me at least 1 hour to go through the city. Finally I arrived at Shi's house at about 7. On Saturday, I started driving to Milwaukee at 3 and arrived way before the game started. I even saw the players practicing. Mcgrady scored 33 and dominated the game while Yi and Yao scored 6 and 12. I recorded a whole lot of the game with my good seat. I would like to share. I got home at about 12 when I got back to Libertyville. Phil also accomplished one of the last states that he had never been to which included Wisconsin, Minnesota, Vermont and Rhode Island. He still has 3 to go.

On Sunday(yesterday), I drove back to Toledo from Libertyville, Illinois. It took 4 and half hours. I drove 800 miles in total for the 3 days in approximately 15 hours.

We just swept Waite in the chess playoff though Ryan Clayton was sick.
